The Pelikan Souverän M400 Black-Green fountain pen carries forward the green-and-black stripes of Pelikan’s 1950 model 400, with gold-plated details.
The sleeve is cellulose acetate, made from striped material that takes several months to prepare. It is then shaped with a natural diamond tool and framed by black resin components.
The 24-karat gold-plated rings are set into the material with nearly seamless transitions. A matching gold-plated beak-shaped clip completes the decoration. Pelikan assembles the pen in Germany and tests its 14-karat gold nib by hand.
Rhodium decoration gives the gold nib its two-tone appearance. The fountain pen fills with bottled ink through a built-in piston and closes with a screw-on cap.
With a barrel length of 120 mm and a barrel width of 11 mm, it measures 149 mm posted and weighs 11 g without the cap.
