The Vostok Europe Systema Periodicum Hydrogen, limited to 3,000 watches, sets a meca-quartz chronograph and a blue multi-layer dial in a steel bullhead case.
A meca-quartz chronograph
The TMI VK67 keeps time with quartz and drives its chronograph through a mechanical module. The chronograph times intervals of up to 12 hours, and its hands snap back to zero instantly on reset. The dial adds a small seconds hand.
A bullhead case
The crown and chronograph pushers sit at 12 o’clock in a bullhead layout. The counterclockwise-rotating bezel carries a metal-ceramic ring that resists scratches and impacts.
A blue multi-layer dial
The blue dial of the Hydrogen model is built in layers around metal indexes. Super-LumiNova coats the hands and indexes, and a luminous dot marks the bezel.
Named for the periodic table
The collection’s name refers to the periodic table, which Dmitri Mendeleev presented in 1869 and which today organizes 118 elements. Each model is dedicated to one element, and its case back describes that element alongside its cell from the table. The Hydrogen model is dedicated to hydrogen (H), the most abundant element in the universe and part of H2O.
The details
The Japanese-made TMI VK67 meca-quartz chronograph movement powers the hours, minutes, small seconds, date, central chronograph seconds, and 12-hour chronograph.
The 316L stainless steel case measures 46 mm across, 55.5 mm lug to lug, and 15.5 mm thick. A 3.5 mm thick K1 crystal, a hardened mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating, covers the dial. The crown and pushers sit at 12 o’clock, and the curved case back is secured with screws. Water resistance is rated at 200 meters.
The watch comes with a leather strap and a silicone strap on quick-release spring bars, both 24 mm at the lugs and fastened with a buckle. The watch ships in a Vostok Europe paper box.
The collection name is Latin for periodic system. Dmitri Mendeleev published his periodic table in 1869, and today it organizes 118 elements. Each watch is dedicated to one element, described on its case back.
A quartz caliber with a mechanically driven chronograph module. Quartz keeps the time, and the central chronograph hand is actuated mechanically, allowing it to reset instantly to zero.
A synthetic crystal that combines the shock resistance of hardened mineral glass with scratch resistance close to that of sapphire. On this watch, the crystal has an anti-reflective coating to improve readability.
The case measures 55.5 mm from lug to lug. That span across the top of the wrist matters more for fit than the 46 mm case diameter.
TMI, a movement maker in Japan’s Seiko Group. Vostok Europe, founded in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2003, has used Japanese movements since 2010 and stopped using Russian ones in 2014. The case is assembled in Lithuania around this quartz caliber.
