The Scribo La Tradizionale fountain pen is crafted from oak used to age Modena's balsamic vinegar, with twelve facets and sterling silver details.
La Tradizionale begins with oak from barrels used to age Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena. Oak is one of the woods chosen for its aromas and qualities in that patient tradition. In letters to Pio Fabriani in 1862, Francesco Aggazzotti described the slow cooking of grape must, followed by fermentation and aging. Scribo brings that history into the body and cap, working the barrel wood into twelve facets that reveal its grain.
Details in 925 sterling silver continue the story. The clip carries a vinegar drop in cold enamel, the cap top a goose feather, and the cap band the La Tradizionale name. Chef Massimo Bottura's signature appears on the silver nib holder; the individual edition number is engraved on the silver end button. For Scribo, the drop also links writing with the preservation of knowledge. As vinegar carries the history of its passage from barrel to barrel, words preserve ideas and pass them on.
The Scribo 14k gold nib carries a pantograph-engraved goose feather and is supplied by an ebonite feed. The pen uses a piston filling system for bottled ink with a capacity of 1.42 ml. Made in Italy, it measures 154 mm capped, has a barrel width of 20 mm, and weighs 65 g with the cap.
Limited to 104 numbered fountain pens, La Tradizionale comes in a handcrafted wooden case with a pen pouch, a 90 ml bottle of balsamic-vinegar-colored ink, and a 100 ml bottle of extra-aged Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena.
