The Namiki Chinkin Silver Grass fountain pen traces the slender forms of susuki in gold inlay against a polished black urushi lacquer surface.
Susuki is Japanese silver grass, a plant found in East Asia. Here, its slender forms are depicted in gold against black urushi, despite the plant's English name.
Signed by Kokkokai, the design is carved into the lacquer using Chinkin. Special chisels cut the pattern, then lacquer is applied inside the grooves to hold gold leaf or powder. The inlaid lines trace the shape of the grass.
The pen is made in Japan with a two-tone 18k gold nib and a screw-on cap. It takes ink cartridges or a converter for bottled ink and comes with a converter in a wooden box. Capped length is 137.3 mm, barrel width is 12 mm, and weight with the cap is 36.5 g.
