A cherry blossom is a flower of many trees of genus Prunus or Prunus subg. Cerasus. They are also known as Japanese cherry and Sakura. It is considered the national flower of Japan. The cherry blossom motif is realized here in chinkin, a technique involving special chisels are used to engrave a pattern onto the lacquered surface. The design is imbued with colour by applying an additional layer of lacquer to the chisel's tracings and inlaying gold leaf or gold powder.
The Namiki Chinkin (Cherry Blossom) was packaged extremely nicely and carefully - it arrived in pristine condition and writes beautifully. I got mine in a Fine. The delivery was extremely fast and the pricing is one of the cheapest out there in the market (even more so when you factor in the fact that they cover Custom/Duty taxes - in Australia).
This pen is wonderful to write with. I got a medium nib and it is buttery smooth. It glides on the page without much effort. I received this pen almost at the same time as I got "finally" my Nakaya cigar piccolo from Japan. Both are beautiful pens and I find myself liking the Namiki Chinkin nib over the Nakaya's. It is hard to describe the feeling of writing with the Namiki nib, it has almost a zen-like, peacefully tranquil feeling writing with it. But in terms of aesthetics, I prefer the Nakaya in its simplicity. The size of the Namki Chinkin is perfect for my hand - which is small. If you can buy a Namiki Chinkin, I highly recommend it.
