The Namiki Chinkin Cherry Blossoms fountain pen celebrates sakura through gold-inlaid flowers carved into polished black urushi lacquer.
Sakura, the Japanese cherry blossom, is a familiar emblem of Japan. The flowers come from trees of the genus Prunus, including the Cerasus subgenus. Their forms appear here in gold against dark lacquer.
Kokkokai artisans use Chinkin to carve the floral pattern directly into the polished surface. Lacquer applied inside the grooves holds the gold leaf or powder that defines each flower.
Made in Japan, the pen has a two-tone 18k gold nib and takes ink cartridges or a converter for bottled ink. With its screw-on cap in place, it measures 137.3 mm long and weighs 36.5 g; barrel width is 12 mm. A converter and wooden presentation box are included.
