The Vostok Europe Nuclear Submarine SSN 571 is a 300-meter diver in a stonewashed black PVD case, with 15 Swiss tritium tubes on its green dial and hands.
Lit by 15 tritium tubes
Twelve tritium tubes stand vertically in reflectors on the dial, and three more sit in the hour and minute hands. Each sealed glass tube glows continuously, without a battery or any need for prior exposure to sunlight or a lamp. Vostok Europe guarantees the glow for at least 10 years.
Built for diving
The unidirectional rotating bezel lets you time a dive from the moment you set its marker. The crown and solid case back screw down, and water resistance is rated at 300 meters.
Named for USS Nautilus
The Nuclear Submarine line honors USS Nautilus, SSN 571. Commissioned in 1954, it was the first nuclear-powered submarine, and on August 3, 1958, the first to cross the North Pole submerged.
The details
The Japanese-made TMI NH35 automatic movement has 24 jewels and a power reserve of 41 hours when fully wound. It powers the hours, minutes, seconds, and date, with hacking seconds and manual winding.
The 316L stainless steel case, finished in stonewashed black PVD, measures 45.7 mm across, 56.2 mm lug to lug, and 15.6 mm thick. A K1 crystal, a hardened mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating, covers the green dial. The crown and solid case back screw down, and the case back bears a 3D image. Water resistance is rated at 300 meters.
The watch comes with a leather strap and a silicone strap with an expandable section, both 22 mm at the lugs and fastened with a buckle. The included screwdriver or a small coin is all it takes to change them. The watch ships in a Vostok Europe DryBox L protective case.
The USS Nautilus, the first nuclear-powered submarine and the first to complete a submerged transit of the North Pole, on August 3, 1958. Nuclear propulsion let her stay at sea far longer than the diesel-electric submarines of her time.
Each marker is a sealed glass tube in which tritium gas makes a luminescent coating glow continuously without charging. This model carries 12 on the dial and 3 in the hands. The Trigalight tubes are made in Switzerland by MB-microtec, a Vostok Europe supplier since 2009. After about 10 years, their brightness settles at approximately 50 percent.
A synthetic crystal that combines the shock resistance of hardened mineral glass with scratch resistance close to that of sapphire. On this watch, the crystal has an anti-reflective coating to improve readability.
The case measures 56.2 mm from lug to lug. That span across the top of the wrist matters more for fit than the 45.7 mm case diameter.
