A yellow dial stands out against the black PVD case of the Vostok Europe Energia II GMT, with tritium-lit markers and a separate 24-hour hand.
Energia II takes its name from the launcher developed for the Soviet Energia-Buran program. First flown in 1987 after ten years of development, the rocket could carry payloads of up to 100 tons. The watch takes its name from that launcher, with an exhibition back showing the automatic movement.
Black PVD outlines the yellow dial. Thirteen tritium tubes sit in reflectors on the dial, with three more in the hour and minute hands and one inside a sapphire capsule on the bezel. The bezel turns in one direction and carries a dive scale with an illuminated reference point.
The Japanese TMI NH34 automatic movement drives the hour, minute, and seconds hands, the date, and a separate GMT hand. The latter reads a second time zone on a 24-hour scale, while the exhibition back shows the mechanism that winds the mainspring. A full wind provides approximately 41 hours of running time.
The 316L stainless steel case measures 48 mm across and 17.3 mm thick, with a screw-down crown and an anti-reflective 3.5 mm K1 crystal. A spring-loaded helium valve releases gas if the pressure difference reaches its threshold, and water resistance is rated at 30 atm. Leather and silicone straps, both 26 mm at the lugs, come with a replacement tool and a VE DryBox XL. Production is limited to 3,000 watches.
Energia was the launcher developed for the Soviet Energia-Buran program. It first flew in 1987 after ten years of development, with a payload capacity of up to 100 tons.
Tritium gas activates a luminous coating inside sealed glass tubes, so they glow continuously without a battery or prior light exposure. This watch has 13 on the dial, three in the hands and one on the bezel. The Swiss Trigalight elements are made by mb-microtec, which has supplied Vostok Europe since 2009. The glow gradually fades as the tritium decays.
Read the main hour and minute hands for one time zone, then read the separate GMT hand against the 24-hour scale for the other. The GMT hand makes one full turn per day and can be set separately from the main hour hand.
The valve releases helium that can enter the case during saturation diving. During decompression, gas trapped inside can create an outward pressure difference. The spring-loaded valve opens automatically at its threshold so the gas can escape.
The exhibition back shows the automatic movement and the rotor that winds its mainspring. The rotor turns as the wrist moves, transferring that motion to the winding mechanism.
