Overview
Blue PVD surrounds the dial of the Vostok Europe Batiscafos Automatic, whose tritium tubes and Super-LumiNova provide two forms of illumination.
The name Batiscafos comes from the Greek bathys, meaning deep, and skaphos, meaning ship. It recalls vessels such as the bathyscaphe Trieste, which reached the floor of the Mariana Trench in 1960. The watch’s streamlined case follows the shape of a deep-sea vessel, with a 60-click unidirectional bezel around the dial.
Applied metal hour markers sit above the blue dial. Blue PVD on the bezel extends the dial’s color to the edge of the case. Swiss tritium tubes provide a continuous glow without prior light exposure, while Super-LumiNova on the hands and markers absorbs light and releases it afterward. The two systems illuminate the same display in different ways.
Through the window in the screw-down case back, the Japanese TMI NH35 automatic movement is visible as its rotor winds the mainspring. It drives three central hands and the date, with approximately 41 hours of running time from a full wind. The crown also allows hand winding, and the seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled to set the time.
The 316L stainless steel case measures 49.7 mm across and 17.2 mm thick. An anti-reflective 3.8 mm K1 crystal covers the dial, and water resistance is rated at 30 atm. The set includes a blue leather strap and a silicone strap, both 24 mm at the lugs with buckle closures. A fitted VE DryBox L protects the watch and accessories inside a polycarbonate shell. Production is limited to 3,000 watches.

What is a bathyscaphe?
A bathyscaphe is a deep-diving submersible. The name comes from the Greek bathys, meaning deep, and skaphos, meaning ship. Trieste, which reached the floor of the Mariana Trench in 1960, is the historical example recalled by this collection.
How do the tritium tubes work?
Tritium gas activates a luminous coating inside sealed glass tubes, so they glow continuously without a battery or prior light exposure. The Swiss Trigalight elements are made by mb-microtec, which has supplied Vostok Europe since 2009. The glow gradually fades as the tritium decays.
What can you see through the case back?
The exhibition back shows the automatic movement and the rotor that winds its mainspring. The rotor turns as the wrist moves, transferring that motion to the winding mechanism.
How does K1 crystal differ from sapphire?
K1 is reinforced mineral glass chosen for impact resistance. Sapphire is harder and more resistant to scratches, so the two materials have different strengths. The anti-reflective coating on this watch’s K1 crystal reduces glare.
Does the case diameter include the lugs?
The 49.7 mm diameter describes the width of the case. Its 58 mm lug-to-lug measurement runs in the other direction, from the tip of one lug to the tip of the opposite lug. That longer measurement describes how far the case extends along the wrist, which the diameter alone does not show.
Why does the dial use two types of illumination?
The tritium elements glow continuously without light charging. Super-LumiNova absorbs light and gives it back as a glow afterward. Using both puts two different lighting methods on the hands and markers, rather than relying entirely on light-charged material.
