Luminox Pacific Diver Quartz Watch with Black Dial.
Luminox was founded in 1989 on the Pacific coast of California, which gives the Pacific Diver line its name. The Pacific Diver 3120 is the standard series of the collection, alongside the 3140 chronographs. Its case, in stainless steel 316L, measures 44 mm across and 12 mm thick.
A Swiss Ronda 515 quartz movement powers the hours, minutes, seconds and date beneath an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Closing the case are a screw-in crown, a CARBONOX™ unidirectional bezel and a 316L stainless steel screw-in case back.
White numerals and hands mark the black dial, which carries tritium gas tubes on the hands and hour markers, lit for up to 25 years. A 316L stainless steel bracelet measures 24 mm at the lugs and closes with a folding clasp.
Into standard three-hand watches in the 3120 and 3120M series, chronographs in the 3140 series and automatics in the 3100 series, all with a stainless steel case. Luminox was founded in 1989 by Barry Cohen and Richard Timbo, and assembles and tests its watches in Solothurn, Switzerland.
Each marker is a borosilicate glass capsule about 0.5 mm across, coated inside with phosphorescent powder and filled with tritium gas, so it glows around the clock with nothing to charge. Luminox holds the intensity constant for the first 10 years, after which the brightness decreases gradually as the gas loses energy, over a visible life of up to 25 years.
Luminox rates this movement at 50 months on a battery. The tritium tubes carry their own energy and draw nothing from it.
Sapphire sits at 9 on the Mohs scale, just below diamond, and Luminox gives it an anti-reflective coating for readability at any angle in bright light.
Ronda, in Lausen, Switzerland. The watch carries the Swiss Made mark, which requires at least 60% of the manufacturing costs of the watch head to be incurred in Switzerland.
