Venezianico Nereide Ultrablack sets a Musou Black™ dial, which absorbs 99.4% of light, inside a brushed steel bezel.
A dial that absorbs light
Developed by Koyo Orient Japan, Musou Black™ paint reflects almost nothing. The dial looks unusually deep against the bright steel hands and markers. Swiss-made BGW9 Super-LumiNova looks white by day and, once exposed to light, shows a blue-green tint in the dark.
A brushed steel bezel
A circular satin-finished steel insert sits in the 120-click rotating bezel.
The details
The Japanese NH35A automatic movement shows hours, minutes, and seconds. The 316L stainless steel case measures 42 mm across, 49 mm lug to lug, and 13.3 mm thick.
An anti-reflective sapphire crystal covers the dial, the crown screws down, and water resistance is rated at 200 meters. The black elastic nylon strap fastens with a buckle and keeps the watch close to the wrist. The case back is engraved with the Nereide, a Venetian-built submarine of 1919 and the line’s namesake.

What does the name Nereide refer to?
It was the name of a submarine built in Venice between 1911 and 1913. Its naval engineering history inspired the collection’s maritime design and rotating bezels.
What creates the dial’s unusually deep black?
Musou Black™ is a Japanese paint that absorbs 99.4% of incident light. Very little light returns from the surface, reducing reflections and making the hands stand out against a dark background. It is a dial coating, not a luminous material.
How does the rotating bezel measure elapsed time?
Align the bezel’s reference marker with the minute hand at the start of an interval. As the hand advances, the scale shows elapsed minutes. With 120 clicks around a 60-minute scale, each click corresponds to half a minute. The bezel measures time independently of the movement.
How do I restart the watch after it has stopped?
Wind it by hand before putting it on. Venezianico recommends about 20–30 turns of the crown to provide an initial reserve. If the crown screws down, unscrew it before winding and secure it afterward. The rotor replenishes the reserve as you wear the watch, though light activity may not supply enough energy to keep it running.
What does sapphire’s hardness mean in everyday wear?
Sapphire’s hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale makes it highly resistant to everyday scratches. It can still be scratched by harder materials, and a hard impact can chip or crack it, especially at an edge.
