The 44 mm U-Boat U-65 TEK SS has a three-level dial patterned after a printed circuit board, set in oil beneath domed sapphire.
No crown on the side
The time is set with the supplied tool, which presses a button on the back.
A circuit-board dial in an oil-filled case
The circuit-board pattern extends across all three layers. Beige Super-LumiNova coats the metal numerals and the black hands above the patterned surface. The oil between the dial and the crystal gives those layers added depth.
The Swiss Ronda 756 quartz movement shows the hours and minutes and runs in the same oil bath. A visible air bubble leaves room for the oil to expand or contract with temperature.
Lugs that follow your wrist
The lugs pivot at the case, letting the black leather strap change angle as it wraps around your wrist.
Rooted in a 1942 naval design
U-Boat began with Ilvo Fontana’s 1942 plans for an Italian Navy watch that was never built. His grandson Italo revived the design in Lucca.
The details
The 44 mm case is 316L stainless steel and water-resistant to 50 meters. The Locking Ring System on the back gives access to the battery.
The strap measures 22 mm at the lugs and tapers to 20 mm at the steel pin buckle. The watch is made in Italy.
Use the supplied setting tool to press the button on the back. A press of up to 2 seconds advances minutes; holding it for 2–4 seconds advances hours. Hold it for more than 4 seconds for continuous advancement, then release it at the desired time.
The bubble is an intentional part of the oil-filled construction. It leaves room for the oil to change volume with temperature and moves as the watch changes position.
The lugs pivot where the strap joins the case, allowing the strap to change angle as it wraps around your wrist. The joint moves at the case, rather than within the strap itself.
Its three layers take their pattern from a printed circuit board. Inside the case, a Swiss Ronda 756 quartz movement runs in an oil bath.
