The 45 mm U-Boat Classico Tungsteno Chronograph Black sets a polished tungsten bezel around a three-level black metal dial with a red 24-hour hand.
A three-level chronograph dial
The numerals and chronograph counters sit at different depths across the dial’s three levels. Beige Super-LumiNova outlines the hands and dial details. Anti-reflective sapphire covers the dial.
The movement on view
Seven screws secure the steel back, where a U-shaped sapphire window reveals the automatic movement and skeletonized rotor.
Rooted in a 1942 naval design
The Classico’s large numerals and protected left-side crown come from Ilvo Fontana’s 1942 plans for an Italian Navy watch that was never built. His grandson Italo revived the design in Lucca. On the Classico, a lever at 8:30 releases the protected crown.
The details
The 45 mm case is 316L stainless steel and water-resistant to 100 meters. The tungsten bezel gives the steel case a bright edge.
The automatic movement, modified to U-Boat’s specifications, displays the hours, minutes, and seconds, along with the date and a 24-hour indication. Its chronograph measures elapsed time. It has 25 jewels, runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, and provides a 62-hour power reserve.
The dark brown leather strap is laser-cut, naturally aged, and handmade in Tuscany. It measures 22 mm at the lugs and closes with a steel pin buckle. The watch is made in Italy.
The opening is a sapphire window set into the metal case back. It gives a view of the automatic chronograph movement and its skeletonized rotor, while seven screws secure the surrounding back.
It distinguishes morning from evening. The main hour hand goes around the dial twice a day, while the 24-hour hand makes one full turn; read it against its own scale to tell, for example, 4 a.m. from 4 p.m.
The lever between 8 and 9 o’clock releases the protected crown on the left side of the case. The chronograph is operated with its separate pushers.
