The 46 mm U-Boat Classico Sommerso DLC is the Classico built for the water, with a unidirectional dive bezel, a three-level black dial, and a visible ruby.
Built for the water
The watch is water-resistant to 300 meters, ready for swimming and diving. The graduated bezel turns in one direction only and lets you time elapsed minutes underwater.
A layered dial with a visible ruby
Three overlapping layers make up the black dial, and brushed steel frames outline each large Arabic numeral. Beige Super-LumiNova covers the hands and hour markers, and the ruby adds a small red detail at 6 o’clock. Anti-reflective sapphire covers the dial, with a magnifying lens over the date window.
Rooted in a 1942 naval design
The Classico’s large numerals and protected left-side crown come from Ilvo Fontana’s 1942 plans for an Italian Navy watch that was never built. His grandson Italo revived the design in Lucca. On the Sommerso, the screw-down crown sits beneath U-Boat’s patented protector.
The details
The 46 mm case is 316L stainless steel with a black DLC finish. Seven screws secure the case back, which is engraved with a submarine mine. A separate plate on the side of the case carries the serial number.
The Swiss U-28 automatic movement displays the hours, minutes, and seconds, along with the date and a 24-hour indication. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, with 25 jewels and a 38-hour power reserve.
The 316L stainless steel bracelet has a black DLC coating and screw-adjusted links, measures 22 mm at the lugs, and closes with a folding clasp. The watch is made in Italy.
Align its reference marker with the minute hand at the start of an interval, then read elapsed minutes against the bezel scale. Its one-way rotation means an accidental turn can increase the elapsed time shown, rather than reduce it.
It distinguishes morning from evening. The main hour hand goes around the dial twice a day, while the 24-hour hand makes one full turn; read it against its own scale to tell, for example, 4 a.m. from 4 p.m.
Three overlapping dial layers create the relief around the numerals and markers. A visible ruby at 6 o’clock adds a small red detail within that layered construction.
