The 45 mm U-Boat Capsoil Chrono DLC immerses both its chronograph movement and its two-layer black dial in oil.
A chronograph in oil
The oil surrounds the dial’s two overlapping layers and adds depth beneath the domed sapphire crystal. A compensation bubble leaves room for the oil to expand and contract with temperature, and it moves across the dial as the watch changes position. When the watch is off your wrist, U-Boat specifies a temperature range of 32–140°F (0–60°C).
The Swiss quartz chronograph movement is customized to U-Boat’s specifications. It tells the time and measures elapsed intervals. The chronograph has its own pushers, separate from the screw-down crown.
Exposed screws, luminous markers
Exposed fastening screws keep the construction in view, and beige Super-LumiNova picks out the hands, numerals, and markers.
Rooted in a 1942 naval design
The left-side crown comes from Ilvo Fontana’s 1942 plans for an Italian Navy watch that was never built. His grandson Italo revived the design in Lucca.
The details
The 45 mm case is 316L stainless steel with a black DLC finish and is water-resistant to 100 meters. The Locking Ring System on the back gives access to the battery.
The black vulcanized rubber strap measures 22 mm at the lugs and tapers to 20 mm at the steel pin buckle, which is also coated in black DLC. The watch is made in Italy.
The bubble is an intentional part of the oil-filled construction. It leaves room for the oil to change volume with temperature and moves as the watch changes position.
Press the start/stop pusher to begin timing, then press it again to stop. Use the separate reset pusher to return the chronograph hands to zero after stopping.
The Locking Ring System has a compartment for battery replacement. Oil adjustment uses a separate service opening reserved for U-Boat’s specialized technicians.
Keep it within U-Boat’s stated 0–60 °C range, away from prolonged direct sunlight, heat sources, and large temperature changes.
