Additional information:
  • The Urushi collection from Namiki brings back the large No.50 Jumbo fountain pen from the early 1930s, named "No.50 Jumbo." The ink introduction function is also the same as the original, with an eyedropper. The beauty is enhanced in this black Emperor fountain pen by using oil-free lacquer for the final layer and a polishing method called "Roiro Urushi Shiage (oil-free lacquer finish)," where the process of repeatedly rubbing raw lacquer after polishing with a special charcoal is employed.

Perfect Namiki Emperor Writing Experience, Without The Additional Decoration

The writing experience on this pen is identical to its more expensive Namiki Emperor cousins. While those higher priced pens are truly beautiful works of art, this model is still extremely elegant and beautiful in its own right. The pen is perfectly weighted, requiring no pressure to write. The nib is buttery smooth, and it never hard starts (even after months of being capped and not used). While it lacks the additional artwork of the other models, the attention to detail and quality of craftsmanship is just as high. The join for the piston operated shut-off valve is so finely tuned that it is nearly invisible. If you want the identical feel and writing experience of the Namiki Emperor line, but don't want to spend the extra money for the additional decoration, this pen is for you.

Namiki Emperor Black Urushi

The pen came well packed, with warranty card duly filled. The nib is aligned perfectly with the feed. There is some air leak somewhere, probably in the ink channel in the neck of the pen. This air leak causes thinner inks to gush out of the nib if the knob is opened even a little.
