Venezianico Bucintoro 42 is an automatic column-wheel chronograph with a vertical clutch and a white three-register dial.
Three registers and a tachymeter
The central hand counts elapsed seconds. A 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock and an hour counter below it record longer intervals. The subdial at 3 o’clock shows small seconds. A tachymeter scale on the inner flange converts the time taken to cover a known distance into an average speed.
Column wheel and vertical clutch
The NE88A movement is assembled by hand at TMI’s facilities in Morioka, Japan. A column wheel controls the chronograph functions, and a vertical clutch engages the timing mechanism. A three-pronged hammer returns all the counters to zero at once.
Named for the Doge’s galley
The Bucintoro was the ceremonial galley of the Doge of Venice, associated with state occasions and the Regata Storica procession on the Grand Canal. Venezianico gave the name to its first chronograph, a fitting link between a timing instrument and the city’s rowing tradition.
The details
The Japanese NE88A automatic movement has 34 jewels and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Swiss-made BGW9 Super-LumiNova on the hands and hour markers helps you read the time in low light.
The 316L stainless steel case measures 42 mm across and 49 mm lug to lug. It is 11.70 mm thick, not counting the 1.90 mm double-domed sapphire crystal. The crown screws down, and water resistance is rated at 100 meters. The stainless steel Canova bracelet carries the case’s polished and satin-finished surfaces onto the wrist and closes with a folding clasp.

What does the name Bucintoro mean?
Bucintoro was the ceremonial galley of the Doge of Venice. Associated with state occasions and the procession of the Regata Storica, it links the chronograph to Venice’s rowing tradition.
How do I use the chronograph?
The upper pusher starts and stops elapsed-time measurement. After stopping, the lower pusher resets the chronograph. The central hand measures elapsed seconds, while the counters record minutes and hours; the small seconds display continues to show the watch’s running seconds.
What do the column wheel and vertical clutch do?
The column wheel coordinates the start, stop, and reset commands. The vertical clutch connects the chronograph to the running movement, helping prevent the timing hand from jumping as it starts. The three-pointed hammer returns the chronograph counters to zero together.
How do I read the tachymeter?
Start the chronograph at the beginning of a measured mile or kilometer and stop it at the end. The central chronograph hand points to the average speed in miles or kilometers per hour on the tachymeter. The elapsed time must fall within the scale’s marked range.
Does the crown screw down?
Yes. Unscrew it before winding or setting the watch, then screw it fully back into place. The crown must be properly secured to maintain the case’s stated water resistance.
