Luminox Master Carbon SEAL Automatic Watch with Black Dial.
In 1992, Nick North, Assistant RDT&E Officer for the U.S. Navy SEALs, asked Luminox for a watch that could be read through night missions, and the Navy SEAL line began. The Master Carbon SEAL Automatic 3860 is the series in which Luminox first combined an automatic movement with a CARBONOX™+ case. That CARBONOX™+ case measures 45 mm in diameter and 14 mm in thickness.
Behind an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a Swiss Sellita SW 220-1 automatic movement with a 38-hour power reserve powers the hours, minutes, seconds, day and date. A screw-in crown, a 316L stainless steel unidirectional bezel and a 316L stainless steel screw-in see-through case back close the case.
Tritium gas tubes on the hands and hour markers light the black dial for up to 25 years. A red cut-to-fit rubber strap, measuring 24 mm at the lugs, fastens with a diver’s buckle with double security.

How are the Navy SEAL watches connected to the SEALs?
They are developed with input from the U.S. Navy SEALs and officially licensed by the U.S. Department of the Navy, and Luminox is also an official partner of the Navy SEAL Foundation. Luminox was founded in 1989 by Barry Cohen and Richard Timbo, and assembles and tests its watches in Solothurn, Switzerland.
How does Luminox Light Technology work?
Each marker is a borosilicate glass capsule about 0.5 mm across, coated inside with phosphorescent powder and filled with tritium gas, so it glows around the clock with nothing to charge. Luminox holds the intensity constant for the first 10 years, after which the brightness decreases gradually as the gas loses energy, over a visible life of up to 25 years.
How long does it run when it is not worn?
Approximately 38 hours from a full wind. Daily wear keeps the mainspring wound, and a watch winder holds it at full power between wearings.
How well does the crystal hold up?
Sapphire sits at 9 on the Mohs scale, just below diamond, and Luminox gives it an anti-reflective coating for readability at any angle in bright light.
Who makes the movement?
Sellita, in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The watch carries the Swiss Made mark, which requires at least 60% of the manufacturing costs of the watch head to be incurred in Switzerland.
