Herbelin Newport Slim Moon Phase Watch with Blue Dial.
Newport took shape in 1988 from the yachts of the America’s Cup at Newport, Rhode Island, and from the portholes of transatlantic sailboats. The Newport Slim Moon Phase reworks the watch of 1988 into the first Newport below 8 mm, its bezel still engraved NEWPORT, on a 316L stainless steel case of 41.5 mm in diameter and 6.95 mm thick.
A Swiss Ronda 706-1 quartz movement powers the hours, the minutes and a moon phase beneath a sapphire crystal. The central lugs and ship’s-wheel crown remain, and the case is cut in three polished facets.
Gold hour markers ring the moon aperture on the blue dial. The watch is delivered on a black leather strap measuring 22 mm at the lugs, with a pin buckle.

How did the Newport collection begin?
In 1988, inspired by the yachts of the America’s Cup at Newport, Rhode Island. It has since sold 500,000 pieces and remains the best-selling line of Herbelin. Herbelin has made watches since 1947, and the family is now in its 3rd generation, led since 2020 by Maxime and Mathieu Herbelin, grandsons of the founder.
Where is it made?
In the Herbelin workshops at Charquemont, in the French Jura near the Swiss border. Each watch is assembled by hand and passes 65 quality checks, and Herbelin keeps spare parts on hand to restore its models, older ones included. The movements are Swiss.
Can I wear it in water?
Rated to 3 atm, it takes splashes and a shower. Water sports are best avoided, and Herbelin advises having the seals checked every 2 years.
How is the moon phase read?
The disc turns once in a lunar month of about 29.5 days, so the moon painted on it follows the real moon from new to full and back.
How well does the crystal hold up?
Sapphire sits at 9 on the Mohs scale and ranks among the most scratch-resistant materials in watchmaking, so few things encountered in normal wear will mark it. A violent knock can still crack it.
