Herbelin Newport Chronograph Watch with Silver Dial.
Newport took shape in 1988 from the yachts of the America’s Cup at Newport, Rhode Island, and from the portholes of transatlantic sailboats. Belonging to the new generation of the line, the Newport Chronograph draws its three counters into the dial beneath a porthole bezel, between central lugs. The case, in 316L stainless steel, measures 43 mm across and 10.55 mm thick.
A Swiss Ronda 5040-D quartz movement powers the hours and minutes, a chronograph and the date, beneath a sapphire crystal, and a back engraved with a ship’s wheel closes the case.
The silver dial is brushed and carries three blue counters that evoke the Mediterranean. It is supplied on a camel leather strap measuring 22 mm at the lugs, fastened by a pin buckle.

How did the Newport collection begin?
In 1988, inspired by the yachts of the America’s Cup at Newport, Rhode Island. It has since sold 500,000 pieces and remains the best-selling line of Herbelin. Herbelin has made watches since 1947, and the family is now in its 3rd generation, led since 2020 by Maxime and Mathieu Herbelin, grandsons of the founder.
Where is it made?
In the Herbelin workshops at Charquemont, in the French Jura near the Swiss border. Each watch is assembled by hand and passes 65 quality checks, and Herbelin keeps spare parts on hand to restore its models, older ones included. The movements are Swiss.
Can I swim with it?
Rated to 10 atm, it is suitable for swimming and water activities. Keep the crown pushed in, leave it untouched while wet, and rinse the watch in fresh water after the sea.
How do you use the chronograph?
Pusher 1 starts, stops and restarts the timing, and pusher 2 returns it to zero. Pressing pusher 2 while the timing runs freezes a split time, and a second press catches the hand up.
How well does the crystal hold up?
Sapphire sits at 9 on the Mohs scale and ranks among the most scratch-resistant materials in watchmaking, so few things encountered in normal wear will mark it. A violent knock can still crack it.
