Overview

Luminox Moon Valley Quartz Watch with Black Dial.

The G-Collection line groups the Luminox references kept outside the SEA and LAND series. The Moon Valley 2400 sets a fixed bezel around an instant-read dial, in a CARBONOX™ case of 43 mm in diameter and 13 mm in thickness.

A Swiss Ronda 515 quartz movement powers the hours, minutes, seconds and date beneath a hardened mineral crystal, and a screw-down crown and a CARBONOX™ screw-down case back close the case.

White numerals mark the black dial. Fitted with a black PU strap measuring 23 mm at the lugs, the watch closes on a steel buckle.

Questions & Answers

What is the G-Collection?

A group of Luminox references outside the SEA and LAND series, built with the same Swiss quartz movements and the same Luminox Light Technology. Luminox was founded in 1989 by Barry Cohen and Richard Timbo, and assembles and tests its watches in Solothurn, Switzerland.

How does Luminox Light Technology work?

Each marker is a borosilicate glass capsule about 0.5 mm across, coated inside with phosphorescent powder and filled with tritium gas, so it glows around the clock with nothing to charge. Luminox holds the intensity constant for the first 10 years, after which the brightness decreases gradually as the gas loses energy, over a visible life of up to 25 years.

How often does the battery need changing?

Luminox rates this movement at 45 months on a battery. The tritium tubes carry their own energy and draw nothing from it.

What does hardened mineral crystal mean?

Luminox hardens its mineral crystals to between 550 and 650 Vickers, about 20% harder than conventional mineral crystal.

Who makes the movement?

Ronda, in Lausen, Switzerland. The watch carries the Swiss Made mark, which requires at least 60% of the manufacturing costs of the watch head to be incurred in Switzerland.
