Mondaine acquires Luminox

Ronnie and André Bernheim, owners of Mondaine, acquired the 50% of Luminox last November They already owned the half of the shares since 2006. This acquisition allows a strong access to the American market. The Berheim hope to continue this trajectory and they will present some novelties in the next edition of Baseworld.

Luminox is known for its homologated system of lighting through microtubules that guarantees an autonomy of 25 years. Specialized in robust watches and designed to be used in extreme conditions.

Montblanc: Timewalker Chronograph 1000 Limited Edition 18

Within the Montblanc novelties, this year we should mention the Time Walker collection. The new models are inspired by the world of rallies and the Minerva sport chronographs. Within these new models, we will talk about the TimeWalker Chronograph 1000 Limited Edition 18 pieces.

The case is made in different materials, titanium and black ceramic mainly. It has a 46.4 mm diameter. The sphere of this model is clearly inspired by the world of the racing engine. For example, the power reserve indicator of the chronograph , located at three, refers to a fuel gauge.

As a detail, between eight and ten the sphere has been trimmed. Through that orifice you can see a small portion of the movement that corresponds to the area where the two handwheels are; the time regulation system and the chronograph regulation system .

It has a mechanical movement and MBM66.26 caliber. Functions of hours, minutes and small seconds. The sphere is black with horizontal lines in the central zone as decoration. The strap is black alligator with asymmetric holes and folding clasp.

Eterna: The pioneers.

The birth of the watchmaker brand Eterna goes back to 1856 when Dr. Josef Girard and the young teacher Urs Schild founded a workshop of ébauches brutes and finished movements in the city of Grenchen.

In 1870 were introduced the first automatic manufacture machines that worked not only thanks to the water of the near streams but also by the action of a modern steam engines. The factory already had almost 300 employees and produced movements with anchor and cylinder leaks, spindles and regulators. However, the excess of supply of movements propitiated a fall in the prices and Urs Schild saw that the only way to ensure the survival of his business was to manufacture entire watches. Thus in 1876 they began to manufacture watches with components entirely manufactured in their workshop.

Schild died in 1888 and his son Theodor, who had studied mechanical engineering, took over the business by increasing productivity and improving the quality and precision of watches. They started using modern manufacturing methods that included automatic and electrical production machinery.

At the beginning of the twentieth century the introduction of the wristwatches was an authentic revolution for the world of watchmaking. Not only for technical and aesthetic challenges, but also for the fierce competition that appeared at this time.

Eterna was one of the pioneers in introducing the bracelet models. In 1910 Eterna appeared at the Universal Exhibition in Brussels, where they was awarded with a Grand Prix. Four years later, they presented their first wristwatch alarm in series produced at the Swiss National Exhibition in Berne.

In parallel to their watches for men, Eterna elaborated an important collection of watches for the female audience. Among them highlights a collection launched in 1930 whose pieces were equipped with a rectangular model and baquette movement  with 7.25 x 22.5 mm, the smallest produced in series.

Since 1930 the firm has been working in the design of cases that offer an optimum protection against water penetration and the negative influence of temperature changes. Eleven years later Eterna created KonTiki, a robust and sporty model that still today is considered a benchmark in terms of equipment for extreme activities and for its reliability, accuracy, strength and endurance.
