Overview
Vostok Europe Energia II Bronze reveals its moving balance through the dial, with a power reserve display and a bronze case that develops a patina.
The Energia launcher first flew in 1987 after a decade of development for the Soviet Energia-Buran program, with a payload capacity of up to 100 tons. Energia II takes its name from that project. This version uses bronze for its 48 mm case, a copper-and-tin alloy that gradually oxidizes with wear. The resulting patina varies in color and pattern with use.
An opening in the black dial shows the moving balance, while the power reserve display indicates the energy remaining in the mainspring. The Japanese Seiko Epson YN84 automatic movement drives the hour, minute, and central seconds hands, along with a 24-hour indicator. A full wind supplies approximately 40 hours of running time.
Tritium tubes light the dial and hands, with another tube housed in a sapphire capsule on the bezel. The unidirectional bezel carries a dive scale around the anti-reflective 3.5 mm K1 crystal. At 17.3 mm thick, the case has a screw-down crown and a spring-loaded helium release valve that opens when the pressure difference reaches its threshold. Water resistance is rated at 30 atm.
Leather and silicone straps are included, each 26 mm at the lugs, with a replacement tool and a VE DryBox XL.

What was the Energia rocket?
Energia was the launcher developed for the Soviet Energia-Buran program. It first flew in 1987 after ten years of development, with a payload capacity of up to 100 tons.
How do the tritium tubes work?
Tritium gas activates a luminous coating inside sealed glass tubes, so they glow continuously without a battery or prior light exposure. The Swiss Trigalight elements are made by mb-microtec, which has supplied Vostok Europe since 2009. The glow gradually fades as the tritium decays.
What is the helium release valve for?
The valve releases helium that can enter the case during saturation diving. During decompression, gas trapped inside can create an outward pressure difference. The spring-loaded valve opens automatically at its threshold so the gas can escape.
How does K1 crystal differ from sapphire?
K1 is reinforced mineral glass chosen for impact resistance. Sapphire is harder and more resistant to scratches, so the two materials have different strengths. The anti-reflective coating on this watch’s K1 crystal reduces glare.
Does the case diameter include the lugs?
The 48 mm diameter describes the width of the case. Its 60.2 mm lug-to-lug measurement runs in the other direction, from the tip of one lug to the tip of the opposite lug. That longer measurement describes how far the case extends along the wrist, which the diameter alone does not show.
Why does the bronze case change color?
The copper-and-tin alloy oxidizes with wear, gradually developing a patina. Its color and pattern depend on how the surface is exposed and used, so the finish changes over time rather than staying uniform.
