Overview
The Pelikan Souverän M405 Black-Blue fountain pen sets blue-and-black stripes against a black resin cap, with silver-toned accents completing the design.
The striped barrel is made from cellulose acetate using a formulation developed for Pelikan. The material is shaped and ground before being diamond-cut to its final contour. A black resin cap and silver-toned trim set off the blue-and-black pattern.
The nib is 14k gold, fully plated in rhodium to give the surface a silver-colored appearance. Made in Germany, the fountain pen has a piston filling system for bottled ink and a screw-on cap. With the cap posted, the pen measures 149 mm in length. The barrel is 120 mm long and 11 mm wide, and the pen weighs 11 g without the cap.

How is the striped barrel made?
Pelikan uses a specially developed cellulose acetate formulation for the blue-and-black stripes. The material is shaped and ground, then cut to its final contour with a diamond.
Why does the gold nib look silver?
The nib is made of 14k gold and fully plated in rhodium. That coating gives the surface its silver-colored appearance.
How is the fountain pen filled?
The pen fills with bottled ink through its built-in piston system. The filling knob operates the piston; no cartridge or separate converter is used.
